— Unveiling of Historic Site + Gallery Closed Opening

Join Black Cube for the unveiling of Historic Site, a new permanent artwork by Artist Fellows Lenka Clayton and Phillip Andrew Lewis in Pittsburgh’s Troy Hill neighborhood.  Installed on the façade of a 120-year-old building, the 8-foot-tall plaque details as much of the history of 1733 Lowrie Street as the artists could uncover.

At the same time, and at the same place, help us celebrate the opening of Gallery Closed. Gallery Closed is a project space in Pittsburgh, PA run by Clayton and Lewis. The gallery is designed to be permanently “closed”, yet at the same time continuously open. All exhibitions are accessible 24-hours a day by peering through two street-facing windows. Pittsburgh-based artists Melissa Catanese and Jon Rubin will be the first to share artworks in the new gallery that respond to the Historic Site plaque. Read more about the exhibition here.

The opening will include performances by the Teutonian Männerchor and Damenchor choir, as well as a ceremonial unveiling of the plaque and a sung recital of the 1,000+ word text by artist John Carson.

+ Everyone is welcome, non-alcoholic drinks will be provided
+ Rain or shine, please bring an umbrella if rain is forecast
+ Masks are required for the safety of our neighbors
+ The first 30 guests to say “Danny DeVito” to the artists will receive a free signed commemorative artwork
