Published in collaboration with Lighthouse Writers Workshop, MONUMENTAL Zine accompanies Black Cube Nomadic Museum’s 2019 exhibition MONUMENTAL, a temporary monuments project in Downtown Denver conceived by Executive Director and Chief Curator Cortney Lane Stell, and presented in partnership with the Denver Theatre District.

The publication gathers a range of contemporary artists, writers, and community members who reflect on the evolving role of monuments within Denver’s civic landscape. Through essays, artworks, and literary contributions, the zine extends the project’s inquiry into how public monuments shape collective memory, identity, and the built environment. By examining and reimagining these symbolic structures, MONUMENTAL Zine offers critical perspectives on how histories are represented and whose narratives are elevated in public space. Offering this publication today invites readers to revisit these ideas and consider how they continue to resonate in our present moment.
